What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is an umbrella term referring to the inability to use information received through the senses to function in daily life. Jean Ayres, occupational therapist, was the first to describe and develop a theory of sensory integration. Dr. Ayres describes sensory problems as inefficient neurological processing.
Occupational Therapy For Kids/Specializing in Sensory Integration
Differences in processing sensory information can play a role in development. Sensory processing is essential to children’s development as it provides a foundation for other skills to build on. Your child requires the right supports to develop the abilities needed to be successful academically and socially. When not treated correctly he may experience emotional, academic, and social difficulties. These difficulties can lead to more serious issues such as anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.

How can Occupational Therapy help my Child?
The brain-body-behavior connection is strong. A child with sensory processing problems struggles to organize his behavior, as many of his sensory cues are disorganized in his brain. Therapy helps children process all their senses so they can organize the messages the brain is sending them. It helps children develop skills to interact with others in social situations.
We specialize in occupational therapy for kids with sensory integration difficulties. Therapeutic supports for sensory processing are available and can successfully treat your child. For example, our Mindful Child program helps children through aerial yoga classes and occupational therapy for kids. Not sure which service is best?
