Aerial yoga is a helpful tool for improving your child’s overall health and well-being. However, many people are not sure how to incorporate it into their child’s life.
Aerial Yoga Hammock
Aerial yoga requires the use of an aerial hammock. The hammock hangs from a structural support in your ceiling or a free-standing rig. It supports the body in different stretches, poses, flips, and tricks. The aerial yoga hammock enhances sensory integration and body awareness. It is a wonderful tool to use for all children.
How to Teach Kid’s Aerial Yoga
Model Poses. When I’m teaching a new pose, I have the class sit on the floor to watch me go through the steps. It is important they understand the points of contact that need to be maintained for safety. After I model the pose, I then lead them through the pose. Finally, if they are having trouble, I assist or spot them as they try the pose.
Pace. A kid’s class will move faster than an adult class, so make sure you have lots of activities, poses, and games planned. Even though you will move faster don’t rush through activities, teach them to slow down, but also be vigilant about keeping them engaged.
Assist. Always ask permission to touch a child unless it is a safety issue. If a child is really struggling with a pose sometimes a physical assist can be helpful to understand the movement.
