An important part of mindfulness is controlled breathing. If you practice mindful breathing regularly, you will experience the amazing effects it has on your well-being. Mindful breathing is also a great tool to introduce children to mindfulness. When practiced correctly, mindful breathing can reduce stress and teach children how to relax, manage big emotions, and be resilient. But practicing breathing exercises can be hard for children. So how can parents make breathing fun? By using props of course!
Here are a few of my favorite mindfulness props for deep breathing:
Mindsight Breathing Buddha. The breathing buddha is a guided visual mindfulness tool to calm your mind & provide reduce anxiety and stress for all ages. It is a great way to do an open-eyed mindful breathing exercise for those who struggle with focus and concentration. It has two breathing modes that stimulate the 5/5 and 4/7/8 breathing exercises by changing colors.
Calm Strips.Calm Strips are textured sensory stickers designed to help reduce anxiety and promote mindfulness. They feature designs inspired by calming experiences, mindfulness, and breathing activities. Calm Strips provide a fun way to manage sensory needs; whether you’re simply touching, scratching, or tracing the textured surface or also utilizing one of our grounding / breathing activities.
Sequin Mermaid Bulletin Board. Reversible Sequin Fabric as pictured above. This wall-mounted sensory board provides an engaging and stimulating sensory experience. Rub your hands across the fabric for a calming sensory adventure, while tracing your fingers to create pictures or letters, promoting mindfulness, stress and anxiety relief.
