Our evidence-based mindfulness approach teaches children how to control their bodies, breathe, focus and relax. It is the science of happiness.
At Mindful Child we offer a whole-child approach to wellness. Our unique therapeutic technique utilizes many alternative and complementary therapies that are backed by neurological research. At Mindful Child, we work to find the root of the problem, not treat symptoms. Our integrative, health-based approach, combines neuro-sensory-motor techniques with growth mindset, positive psychology, nutrition, aromatherapy and relaxation training. All therapy sessions are play-based and the aerial yoga hammock is used as a therapeutic prop to enhance mindfulness, executive function, and relaxation.
We specialize in the following areas:
- ADHD, including lack of focus, executive functioning, impulsivity, and hyperactivity
- Gifted and Talented Children
- Highly Sensitive Children
- Stress Management (children and adults)
- Sensory Processing Disorder
- Developmental Delays and Learning Disabilities
All new clients, seeking assistance for their child, with a therapeutic goal in mind, should sign-up for an initial assessment. The initial assessment measures problem behaviors, adaptive skills, sensory, executive function and much more. At Mindful Child, we do not diagnose children – we gather data to make comprehensive, individualized plans to help children with any difficulties they may be having.
Trouble booking online? Call us at 913-289-0055 or e-mail email@example.com.
The initial appointment covers all aspects of the assessment including:
- Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC-3) – Structured Developmental History
- BASC-3 Personality Assessment
- 30 minute 1:1 assessment with therapist
- Comprehensive report
- 30 minute meeting with therapist to review the report and discuss recommendations
Childhood is full of fun and play, sure – but kids also experience stress, anxiety, challenging situations, and overstimulation. Yet knowing how to deal with these obstacles is not an innate skill that most kids have. In our mindfulness-based therapy sessions we teach your child how to be mindful to promote emotional balance and resilience. Mindfulness shows children how to overcome challenges through guided instruction in fun, sensory and evidence-based activities. Mindful Child’s mindfulness approach is combined with a variety of other health-based practices based on your child’s individual needs. Our therapy sessions teach your child to reduce stress, improve concentration, and handle difficult emotions.
Health-based practices we combine with mindfulness:
- Applied Relaxation Training
- Behavioral Nutrition
- Growth Mindset
- Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI) Method
- Positive Psychology
- Progressive Muscle Relaxation
- Aerial Yoga
- STAR Institute Theoretical Model and Framework
- Astronaut Training Program for Kids
We work closely with our families, providing them with in-home programs, progress reports, and support as needed. Our service frequency and duration is based on the assessment report, but research tells us a minimum of 8-weeks is needed to create a new neural pathway in the brain. Since we are a neurologically-based program, home practice is integral to the success of our services – we ask parents to partner with us in this process to inspire peace, calm, and happiness across settings.
